Zain Westbrooke says ending the recent pattern of conceding poor goals must end as Rovers dropped points from a strong position at Harrogate Tow.
Rovers were 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Aidan Barlow and Luke Molyneux but were made to settle for a share of the spoils after conceding two sloppy goals in a ten minute spell.
Westbrooke on how the game played out:
“It’s a feeling that we’ve had over the last few games now. It’s something we’re desperately trying to rectify. Deservedly we were 2-0 up, on the front foot, playing we, and I think it just seems to be a pattern at the moment that we sit back and concede chances. We ended up conceding two goals - and two very soft goals as well which no one is happy with.
“It’s a pattern that we’ve got to stop. We want to win every game before the end of the season and finish as high as possible so it’s something we’ve got to rectify.
“We looked nervy early on but we managed to turn it around which is a good sign because in recent games teams have been putting pressure on us and making it count. We did well to turn it around, put the pressure back on them and deservedly got two goals.
“We’ve got players in this team that are very good footballers and we need to show that. I feel like we’ve done it in the last couple of games but the results are the main thing and we’ve got to make it count.”
On defending the box:
“It’s been a problem for us in recent games and teams are going to be looking at that and trying to constantly put balls into our box. It’s something we’ve got to do better at, we’ve got to be better organised and talk more and want to get the ball out and win the headers.”
On the character of the group:
“In the last game we were 1-0 up and lost. On this occasion we didn’t lose the game and we have to look at the positives. We scored two goals, deservedly so, and we haven’t been scoring much recently. There are positives - it’s hard to think about them because it’s two points dropped but we have to take them into Tuesday at Stevenage.”
