Molyneux relishing attacking onus under McCann

23 July 2023

Luke Molyneux says Grant McCann’s plans for the attacking players at Rovers have been music to his ears.

McCann wants his forwards to show no fear in attack and express themselves as they take the game to the opposition.

Winger Molyneux believes he is well-suited to deliver on the manager’s demands and has enjoyed working under the new boss during pre-season.

He said: “It’s been tough. There’s been a lot of high-intensity stuff, especially for us attackers - it’s been all about getting forward and making those runs in-behind.

“Personally it’s been good. He’s worked well with the attacking side of things. It’s been something I’ve needed and I’m really looking forward to getting started.

“He wants us to get on the ball, to attack, to take risks and he’s not too bothered if we lose the ball as long as we react when we do lose it.”

With two weeks remaining until the start of the new Sky Bet League Two campaign, Molyneux believes there is still plenty of improvement left in the Rovers squad.

He said: “It’s all areas for us. I think we need to be more clinical up top and score more goals.

“We’ve not really conceded many goals but I still think we need to be better without the ball, we need to win it back quicker and have better reactions.

“We need to have more fight. It was a scruffy game at Scunthorpe but those are the games where we need to find a way to win.

“We’re all looking forward to the start of the season and I think we’re slowly getting there.”
