Mood in the camp is good: McCann

9 February 2024

Grant McCann has no concerns over the mood in the camp as Rovers prepare to face Tranmere Rovers.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash at the Eco-Power Stadium, McCann was asked about the atmosphere at the training ground in light of the current run of form.

“The mood is fine,” McCann said, “The mood is good. The changing room is fine.

“From outside looking in you would probably think it’s not but I wouldn’t mind anyone coming down, spending a day with us and seeing the mood.

“The boys are training well. Obviously no one is happy with what we’re showing at the moment, we know that. But all we can do is focus on the next one, try to be better, try to prepare and give the fans something to shout about.

“That last minute goal at Sutton can hopefully spark us into some sort of form going into these games. At Sutton it was a poor game, two teams that really didn’t play any sort of football and we didn’t get going. But I’m pleased with the attitude and the togetherness of the boys to keep going until the end and I think that’s important in any team.

“You have to have that bit before you start passing through and around teams. There’s different ways we need to go about different game and we’re not blinded by that.

“Saturday is another opportunity for us to get three points and we’ll try to do that.”

On visitors Tranmere, McCann is expecting a stern test from a side that have been in good form in recent months, with eight wins from their last 14 league matches.

He said: “They’re a good team and they’ve turned their form around over the last couple of months with some wins against teams at the top end of the league,” he said.

“They got a decent point last weekend against a good Crewe team in an open game that we watched. We’ve seen their last three of four games with Lee Glover and Copps watching them.

“We know what they’re about. We know their distances and shape. It’s been really effective for them in the 4-4-2 and they’ve got the threats of the likes of Apter and Jennings. They can hurt you.

“We know what they’re all about but it’s been really important for us to focus on our own game plan and get our own ideas on how we can hurt them.

“We’ll take that into the game with the positivity that we’re at home. We were disappointing in our last game at home - in fact we were very poor against Stockport.

“So we owe everyone - the fans, ourselves, our families a performance at home on Saturday so that’s what we’re going out to do.”
