Adamson: There's good vibes in the youth team

First year scholar Max Adamson has reflected on the start to both his first pre-season with Rovers U18s, and the beginning of the side’s build-up to this season’s league campaign.

The forward came off the bench to score Rovers’ third goal in a tightly contested 3-3 draw against Youth Alliance North-West side Oldham Athletic in the heat of Cantley Park.

Adamson had featured for the side last season as an U16 but now the goal scorer has had to adapt to his first full pre-season schedule with the U18 squad since returning from the summer break.

He said: “It has been good to be back. There’s a good vibe in the building and around the squad and it’s been hard but it’s going to be worth it.

“Training has been at a high-quality level and hopefully we’re going to build up what we’ve been doing and transfer it into games on a Saturday.”

Rovers played out three 30 minute periods against the Latics and although Adamson missed out on playing in the first spell he had no problem in praising his teammates’ performances throughout the game.

He added: “In the first 30 we did well and I thought the lads were playing better than Oldham, we built up play well, got an early goal and we were playing well as a team.

“In the second 30 I came on with some of the U16s and unfortunately Oldham started well and got their own early goal but we fired back to get ahead again straight away and as that spell progressed I thought it was a pretty even game with it been three-a-piece.

“Then in the final period I thought it was pretty even again and we should’ve got a winner at the end but unfortunately we hit the bar and it didn’t go in.”

With the U18s now back into their full schedule, the striker hopes that he will find improvements alongside his teammates as they prepare for their second game of pre-season against Sheffield United U18s at Cantley Park.

He said: “Hopefully we’ll train this week and get better at what we do and build the tactics needed into our game and play better next Saturday.”
