Joe Ironside revealed he has been passing on wisdom to fellow striker Jack Goodman as the youngster takes his first steps in senior football.
Goodman started the EFL Trophy tie with Mansfield Town and had several good opportunities to find the net.
Ironside has looked to pass on his knowledge as much as possible and believes the 18-year-old has a bright future.
“We’ve had a few good conversations, myself and Jack,” he said. “He’s a young boy and a very talented boy.
“If I can help him in any way, then that’ll make me happy. I’ll try to get my arm around him, give him a few tips that I’ve learned over the years and hopefully he can put it to good use.
“He will be frustrated at the ones he’s missed but right thing is that he’s there to miss them, as daft as it sounds.
“I’m more than sure that when he gets his next opportunity, he’ll bury it because he’s a really good finisher.
“He’ll learn from it but the positive is that he’s getting into the positions in the first place. If he wasn’t getting chances, that’d be the concerning part.”
Ironside got on the scoresheet himself at the One Call Stadium after coming off the bench in the second half - helping Rovers draw level at 2-2 after trailing early in the game.
Calum Johnson scored a late header to secure the win for Mansfield in Northern Group H.
“I think we’re getting there, slowly but surely,” Ironside said of the team.
“We just need to turn performances into results and get on a roll. We know we can do it, we know we’re good enough. It’s about implementing what the gaffer wants us to do but I know we’re going to get better.
“It’s nice when you get the goal after coming on. Zain put a great ball in, I was in the right position and luckily it came back off the post to me.
“I just plan on keep trying to make myself available in positions and getting on the scoresheet to keep ticking them off.”
