Rovers lurch from one shit sandwich to the next sees them travel to the formerly Gay Meadow looking for their first away win of the season. Like Rovers, Shrewsbury have managed only two wins at home all season and are struggling in the league, finding themselves five places and three points above the reds albeit having played a game more.
Tuesday night’s game marks the first time that new manager Darren Ferguson will pick the team. The big questions appear to be who will play right back? Who starts in centre midfield? Does Coppinger retain his place (and his captaincy)? Does Forrester start? Who starts upfront? and most importantly will we draft in Lewis Guy on an emergency loan? Pressing questions indeed for the former Peterborough man. One would hope that Ferguson goes for a win against the Shrews as going forward we do have players who can hurt teams and their goals against tally of 19 is promising.
Spectacularly named Shrewsbury manager Mickey Mellon will perhaps be satisfied with his teams average start as they came up from league 2 last season. Football league journeymen such as Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro and Liam Lawrence supplement a young and hungry squad and the Shrews will have earmarked this as a winnable game as Rovers now find themselves only kept off the bottom of the table by Crewe.
Rovers have already played 4 of the top 6 this season so perhaps find themselves in a false position. We will have a better idea after Tuesday night. If Rovers find themselves 13 games into the season and still in the bottom 4 than there would be real cause for concern.
Match Prediction Shrewsbury 1-2 DRFC
A new manager and a new era for Rovers. It would churlish to be anything other than optimistic. Williams to score from open play. Tyson to score the winner deep into Fergie time.
